Opequon Elementary School, located in Martinsburg, West Virginia is four for four! On October 3, 2023, Opequon Elementary completed their 4th planting in 4 years. This was a continuation of last Spring’s planting with 16 flowering trees going in the ground, making their total surpass 60 trees.
The schoolwide planting was a two-day event with over 400 students participating in the tree planting and a classroom lesson about the environmental and social benefits of trees. Students really thrived outdoors with several remembering proper planting techniques from the last planting!
Teacher and project leader, Huston Johnson, explained that “Opequon Elementary are very proud to have planted over 60 trees in 4 years. We’re slowly turning our school campus into a place where students and community members can enjoy for decades to come.”
