On the first day of the spring 2021 planting season, Martinsburg – Berkeley County Parks and Recreation hosted a Carla Hardy WV Project CommuniTree planting at two parks, P.O. Faulkner Park and Poor House Farm Park, located in Martinsburg, West Virginia. The Project Leader, Matthew Pennington, along with staff from Berkeley County Public Service Storm Water District and Berkeley County Parks and Recreation planted 11 native trees at P.O. Faulkner park and 5 arborvitae at Poor House Farm Park. The trees planted will not only supply a windbreak for the newly constructed tennis courts but helped to recreate a visual screen for the general maintenance building. During the planting, Matthew completed an educational presentation highlighting the many benefits these new trees will bring to the respective parks, including, improving air quality, reducing flood risks, and providing shade.
